Discount codes can be setup in Wizevents as either a percentage off or dollar amount off the registration total. Note that this is for the entire registration and should be setup accordingly.
The fields for discounts that need to be completed or updated are:
Discount Code: (the code name itself, i.e. staff, comp, etc.)
Discount Amount: (dollar amount or % off of total registration cost)
Discount Start Date: (start date that the discount code can start to be used)
Discount End Date: (end date that the discount code can no longer be used)
There is no maximum limit to the number of discount codes you can give out and the codes are NOT case sensitive.
Scenario Example 1 - Discounted Tickets: You want to offer $50 off the ticket price for staff and $100 off the ticket price for staff plus their spouse, therefore, you should setup two different discount codes. One discount code named something like “staff” with a discount amount $50 and one discount code named something like “staffandspouse” with a discount amount $100. The discount code used during checkout would depend on how many tickets are purchased (one or two).
Scenario Example 2 - Complimentary Tickets: You want to offer complementary tickets to special guests or staff. Create a discount code named something like “comp” with a discount amount of 100% off. This code can be used by the registrant’s during registration so that there will be no charge.
Scenario Example 3 - Discounted Tickets as a percentage: You want to offer $100 off the ticket price for tickets that cost $200. Create a discount code named something like “disc50” with the discount amount 50%. The 50% discount will apply to all tickets purchased.
Although presenting a discount code as a dollar amount may seem simpler at first, it may change the ticket price if multiples are purchased via one registration. For this reason, we suggest you create a discount code as a percentage so the amount you want to charge will always work out the same way, regardless of the number of tickets that are purchased.
For example, a regular priced ticket costs $180. Offering $80 off results in 2 discounted tickets for $280, while offering a 45% discount code will bring the total of 2 discounted tickets to $198.
